The last paragraph talks about things to do to set right the situation in the two States of AP. Let them do whatever they like. pl do not comment on foreign countries and their culture without knowing them first hand. We live in USA and know the culture and the high values of life here. I also happen to know very intimately many Asian countries and European countries. They all have great leaders and intellectuals who are worth their salt and have done great service to their countries .
I am an Indian to the core and have great regard for our ancient cultural heritage. I am quite proud of my ancient India but certainly not of my modern India. As you express, one should be ashamed of present day India. But foreign countries and cultures have nothing to do with the present day India.
People should never be blamed. It is the deplorable leadership at all levels at the Centre as well as the States that is squarely responsible for this situation. YATHA RAJA THATHA PRAJA. people generally follow the rules wherever they are. It is only when the rules are flouted and there is no check, that others follow suit. So when the first person is checked, others will continue to be careful.
Nothing happens by thinking aloud and writing. All leaders and people in positions should be made responsible and accountable for their actions. In present day India, there is no chance for this with our brand of democracy. But in the democratic brand of USA , this is followed in letter and spirit.
Our Leaders , who talk of Singapore, do not know anything about their great leader LEE KUAN YEW, who singlehandedly made Singapore what it is today.
IT HAS BECOME AFTER A FASHION TO LOOSELY COMMENT ON FOREIGN COUNTRIES AND THEIR CULTURE FOR THE ILLS OF INDIA. please refrain from doing it. You all do whatever you like with your country. We nonresident Indians love our country and remember our roots to lead our lives within the framework of our ancient culture to the best of our ability in spite of the constraints. Even in a civilised society, an individual has to lead his/her own life for enrichment.
It is very unfortunate that we can not look to our motherland to learn anything today.

    • we ape foreign culture without bothering to follow the values the foreigners stand for. introspection is the need of the hour before blaming other cultures. your letter is meaningful, rational and well-timed. most of your comments on present day india are valid. thanks to you and hope it will help some misguided elements to compound well.
